About RiteFood4Pets
Our business idea was born out of interaction with other pet parents. We were always asked what we fed our pets with . We realized that a lot of pet owners wanted to feed their pets with the food they could trust, and we were more than happy to share our story (see below) and our recipes (and there are plenty of them on the Internet). But we also understood that a lot of them simply did not have time to cook meals for their pets! We decided to help those pet parents who want the meals for their pets that are freshly made and don’t have a shelf life like the commercial food does.
About UsLike any other pet-parents, we fed our Patty with a commercial food bought from a regular pet store. We believed that we were giving our four-legged child the best commercial food available on the market at the time until one day she started getting blisters between digits on her paws. She was just 4 years old. Our local veterinary doctors thought that she was allergic to food and prescribed her a special diet canned food. But her blisters did not go away. They got so unmanageable that she could not walk for a long distance without limping. The doctors recommended that we go to the veterinary teaching hospital at UC Davis.
At the UC Davis hospital, we met wonderful doctors who were puzzled with Patty’s condition in the beginning. They told us to change her diet again, observe her conditions, and document everything in a spreadsheet for two weeks. After long and painful trials with diet and various medications (and high bills, needless to say), Patty was diagnosed with pododermatitis, an inflammation that was caused by an auto-immune disorder. Moreover, she was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer after the doctors ran a blood work. We were devastated. We questioned ourselves what we had done wrong that she got both pododermatitis and thyroid cancer. She was only four years old. Luckily for her and us, her tumor was well incapsulated and was not spread out anywhere else in her little body. After the surgery and chemotherapy, the doctors could address her other problem - pododermatitis. They prescribed Atopica, immunosuppressive medicine that was used in preventing organ rejection in organ transplants. Patty’s conditions improved immediately but her lifestyle did not. She became very lethargic. We could not recognize our little precious girl who loved exploring the surrounding world. We felt that to keep her on Atopica for the rest of her life was to take the quality of life she had known before she was diagnosed with pododermatitis and thyroid cancer. We started doing research and reading books on dogs which coincided the infamous dog food poisoning reported in the media at that time. We immediately decided to take Patty off her commercial food and cook her meals that contained the ingredients we bought in a store: meat, oat meal, vegetables, and supplements recommended by various holistic veterinarians. She loved it! She could not wait for her meal! At our own risk, we decided to take her off the Atopica gradually. In a couple of months, she was off the Atopica, and her pododermatitis never came back. Nor did we come back to buying the commercial dog food. With our third beagle, Davis, we continue cooking meals for our pets. So, we decided to share our story and bring our success to others. After years of preparing our own dogs' meals at home, we began offering a delivery service here in the Bay Area to help others who may not have the time or ability to cook their own food of their beloved babies. We put love and joy into every meal we make and as well love to say - their food is made but ours is cooked! |
